Pressurized Welding Habitat Solutions

Engineered Enclosures for Hazardous-Area Hot Work

Modular pressurized habitat solutions for welding, cutting and grinding activities in industrial environments. The enclosure, clean-air supply, monitoring and protective controls are configured around the work activity, hazardous-area classification and project safety requirements.

01 / The Habitat System

A Controlled Boundary Around the Work Area

A pressurized welding habitat forms a temporary enclosure around a defined hot-work location. Clean air is supplied to establish positive pressure relative to the surrounding atmosphere, helping limit the entry of external gases.

The enclosure also provides a physical boundary around the welding activity. Its safe operation depends on the complete system—not pressure alone—including atmospheric monitoring, ventilation, access arrangements and the approved shutdown philosophy.

Typical work activities

  • Welding
  • Cutting
  • Grinding
  • Project-specific hot work

02 / How It Works

Enclose. Pressurize. Monitor. Protect.

  1. 01 · Enclose

    Habitat Installation

Assemble and seal the modular enclosure around the work location. Provide the required access and service penetrations.

  2. 02 · Pressurize

    Air Supply & Pressurization

Introduce suitable clean air and establish the operating conditions specified for the selected system.

  3. 03 · Monitor

    Continuous Monitoring

Monitor the required pressure, airflow and atmospheric conditions using the selected instruments and control arrangement.

  4. 04 · Protect

    Alarm & Shutdown Response

Initiate the defined response if a monitored condition exceeds its permitted limit or a specified system fault occurs.

The actual start-up sequence, purge requirements, operating permissives and shutdown actions must follow the offered system’s approved operating documentation.

03 / Key System Components

Four Subsystems, One Protective Arrangement

Modular Habitat Enclosure

Panels, joining system, seals and work-area penetrations.

Technical data: Panel material, dimensions, fire performance and permitted assembly configurations.

Clean-Air Supply & Ventilation

Air-moving equipment, intake arrangement and supply or extraction ducting.

Technical data: Airflow, fan duty, intake location, duct specification and fume-control requirements.

Monitoring & Control System

Instruments and controls selected for the system's required operating parameters.

Technical data: Pressure measurement, gas detection, alarms, setpoints and control logic.

Access & Protective Arrangements

Personnel entry, emergency egress and protective isolation functions.

Technical data: Access configuration, emergency controls, interlocks and shutdown responses.

Exact components must be checked against the offered system; the items above describe the types of equipment involved, not one complete or interchangeable product package.

04 / Technical Specifications

Specification & Verification Requirements

Where an exact value depends on the configuration offered, the verification required is stated rather than a rating assumed.

ParameterSpecification / verification requirement

Habitat dimensionsAvailable panel sizes and assembled dimensions to be confirmed
Panel materialExact material composition and product datasheet required
Panel fire performanceTest method, rating and supporting report required
Antistatic propertiesMaterial test evidence required if specified
Differential pressureOperating range, minimum limit and alarm setpoint to be confirmed
Air supplyRequired airflow and permissible operating range to be confirmed
BlowerDuty, electrical rating and hazardous-area suitability to be confirmed
Supply ductingMaterial, diameter and connection arrangement to be confirmed
Fume extractionRequired extraction method and capacity to be established for the work process
Gas detectionTarget gases, detector range, positions and alarm setpoints to be confirmed
MonitoringRequired pressure, airflow and atmospheric parameters to be confirmed
Control systemStart-up permissives, alarm logic and shutdown sequence to be documented
Electrical supplyVoltage, frequency, connected load and connection type to be confirmed
Operating temperaturePermitted ambient range of the complete system to be confirmed

Product documentationDatasheets, applicable certificates, manuals and inspection records

Engineering distinction: A panel’s heat-resistance rating is not the habitat’s permissible ambient operating temperature. An individual Ex-certified component also does not automatically certify the complete assembled habitat.

05 / Zone 1 & Zone 2 Applications

Matched to the Classified Location

ZONE 1

Zone 1 Configuration

Selection must account for the site's hazardous-area classification and the documented suitability of the complete proposed arrangement.

Confirm before selection: Equipment marking, gas group, temperature class, protection arrangement, operating limits and protective functions.

ZONE 2

Zone 2 Configuration

The selected configuration must match the classified location, work activity and site-specific risk assessment.

Confirm before selection: Equipment suitability, required monitoring, alarm setpoints and approved shutdown logic.

The same equipment is not automatically suitable for both Zone 1 and Zone 2. The exact model, equipment markings, certification scope and project requirements must be checked.
